Picasa: The most powerful free image editor?

Posted 1 January 2020

There's an awful lot to love about Picasa - it's free, it's fast, it's powerful. When I have a batch of images to process, there is nothing quite like it.  Most commonly, I find that my images can be more punchy if I use the following features:

Crop - because the crop ratio varies and my images are not perfectly framed in-camera.

Straighten - perhaps my verticals are not quite or I mistakenly had a slant on the horizon

Contrast and fill light - to bring detail out of the darkness

Sharpen - after playing around with fill-light this cleans up the histograms and makes the image a bit crisper

Boost or saturation - to make the colours more vibrant and the image more appealing
